It's not surprising that this guy switched to the left. He doesn't look white, so the white nationalist right was probably always unnatural for him, and he gradually came to that realization. It's similar to Cenk Uygur, the 'Young Turk.' Cenk Uygur started out as a Republican early on his career, but gradually came to terms with the fact that he wasn't accepted there, and switched to the left.
