Despite the fact that California was never a Slave State, Governor Gavin Newsom has set up a slavery reparations taskforce to pay out reparations to the descendants of Black slaves. The reparations taskforce has not been voted upon by Californians, but has put forth a proposal that will be voted upon by the state legislature.
