Very much agree with this radial model framework...

The main beneficiaries are likely going to be retired people in Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Westlake Village that need just this kind of kick to downsize their houses and move.

Most people displaced from Pacific Palasades are going to stay in California. You don't spend that many years living near the Pacific Ocean only to give it up for something more than 30 minutes from the beach, let alone Arizona or Texas.

Huntington Beach will probably face an ever greater gentrification push. North County San Diego people will be complaining about Orange County people moving south.

Perhaps a rebuilt Altadena takes some influence from La Cañada Flintridge, while the lower social classes might end up in Tujunga if they want to stay in the foothills.

This was an engaging read. Thank you. One thing to note is that insurance rates will reverberate across the nation now.

Very sad. Palisades was lovely and the old families that built and sustained it for decades will be gone for good. Your scenario sounds good for financial hustlers, real-estate speculators, and the super-wealthy, but bad for everyone else. You can expect homelessness, especially of the hidden kind, to increase exponentially. L.A. is through for ordinary middle/working class whites unless you have section 8 or inherit property.

If this doesn't cause California or LA to become Yimby, then maybe independence will.

Right before I went back to read this, I notice California's independence movement has just restarted again. It should be obvious that the LA fires caused it. Don't know if this rings true there, but north of you, I see a lot of calls for Hawaiian Independence (including their sovereignty flag), only increasing after the fires.

The Dixian independence movements may have been quelled with Trump being president for now... However, I haven't seen him nor Musk comment about keeping his promise to restore the names of Dixie's heroes.

Wonder if all the responses to the disasters will accelerate Separatist movements?

For all its faults, California has some awesome stuff in it that needs to preserved.
