My First Magic Mushroom Trip in a Crowded Public Setting
Experiencing The Movie "They Live" On Shrooms
My First Magic Mushroom Trip Report
My Second Magic Mushroom Trip Report
Last weekend while in LA, I ingested Psilocybin Mushrooms before heading out to a party at a bar, which I knew was risky, and I had some anxiety that it could have ended badly. It was the same mushroom strain as from the previous trip, though I took less. Perhaps, anywhere from half to three quarters the amount. Just to clarify, I was a passenger and did not drive under the influence.

While driving up La Brea Blvd, off the 10 freeway through a semi ghetto area, I picked up menacing vibes from my surroundings. I also noticed that billboards were illuminating and emanating this demonic energy, as well as animated in motion. For instance, I saw a billboard for the new Nosferatu movie, and it appeared like the giant claw was moving over the woman’s head, which was super creepy. This experience made me think of the 80s movie, They Live, in which billboards reveal subliminal messages. For instance, something as benign as an advertisement for the local News appeared sinister. Also, I saw a neon sign that seemed much more intense, magical, and illuminated.

Once at the bar in the Miracle Mile/Mid Wilshire District, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the crowd and felt disoriented. Once seated, I noticed my settings expand to the point where I almost felt like I was a small child again. Later while walking around, I felt god-like and sensed a de-personification of the strangers around me, almost like they were inanimate objects, like mannequins. I can see how those against psychedelics might use that to prove that they are dangerous. It could also be a metaphor for the conformity and superficiality of normies.
I also noticed the facial characteristics and expressions of the people I was socializing with were greatly exaggerated like cartoon characters. This is in contrast with a sense of greater connection to others which I sort of experienced on my second trip. However, after the peak experience subsided, I became more outgoing and talkative. In contrast, both cannabis and alcohol increase my social anxiety, and I’ve had much worse experiences being high on cannabis in crowds.
Like past trips, I had some brief mild nausea. I was worried that if I ate during the mushroom trip, I would get an upset stomach or vomit, but I was fine after eating some Mexican food. I did not consume any alcohol at the bar, which I consider almost sacrilegious.

On a side note, there were a lot of really hot Jewish women, as the venue caters to young people who work in the entertainment industry, and I even saw a blonde Jewish Halston Sage lookalike waiting for an Uber. Also, the particular venue was featured in David Lynch’s film, Lost Highway, which is a very trippy film.

The long term effects of my previous trip included a greater appreciation for the natural beauty around me, which I usually take for granted, which lasted about a week. I did not experience that this time, but like the second trip, I continued to feel more aggressive and confident. Unlike the previous trips, I experienced nothing spiritual, feelings of nostalgia or sentimentality, or intense euphoria, which signals that the setting is extremely conducive. Regardless, the Psilocybin Mushroom experience is truly like entering another dimension.

While I am in favor of legalizing psychadelic agents, I don't think regular use are a great idea. Long ago in my deep past I picked up a negative entity after an LSD trip.
But, yes, they do tend to open you up to seeing the deeper nature of reality. I had a really beatific experience on psilocybin (also a very long time ago) where all of creation was emanating love and appreciation, especially the objects that "belonged" to me. Very memorable.
These states can be recreated via meditation and adjacent practices, although obviously it takes much more work. But the work actually creates the necessary protective barriers and a certain level of wisdom that cannot be gained by just ingesting something.
Not knocking your experience: just suggesting that it is a doorway and/or invitation to a deeper practice.
Nice read. You seemed to be handling it well at the bar! I’ve had similar trips where advertisements were giving me They Live vibes
